How to Make Sugar on Snow (6 Steps)
One common treat made each year at maple harvest season in the six New England states is sugar on snow. This delicious dessert is quite unique because it makes use of the snow right outside your front door. The snow, when combined with a syrup that has been heated to just the right temperature, forms a taffy-like concoction that is sure to please the sweet tooth of every member in your family.
Things You'll Need
- Bowl
- Snow
- 100 percent pure organic maple syrup
- Pot
- Spoon
- Candy thermometer
- Fork
Instructions
-
Take a bowl outside and scoop up a cup of snow. You'll need one bowl of snow for each family member.
-
Set the bowls of snow in the freezer until the syrup is ready. Otherwise, the snow will melt.
-
Pour 1 cup of 100 percent pure organic maple syrup in a pot. This is enough syrup for four family members. Add 1/4 cup of the syrup to the pot for each additional family member.
-
Turn the temperature setting on the stove to high heat and place your pot of syrup over top of it. Stir the syrup continuously as it heats up, or it will stick to the bottom of the pot.
-
Insert a candy thermometer into the syrup as soon as it reaches a boil. Watch for the temperature to reach 234 degrees Fahrenheit.
-
Remove the syrup from the heat and pour it over the snow. Twirl with a fork and eat the sugar on snow immediately.
