Where did bundt cake come from?
Bundt cake originated in Germany, where it is known as Gugelhupf. The word "bundt" comes from the German word "bund", meaning "to gather" or "to bind", referring to the way the dough is gathered and shaped in the distinctive Bundt pan. Recipes for Gugelhupf date back to the 17th century and the cake is believed to have been introduced to the United States in the 19th century by German immigrants. The cake gained popularity in the United States in the 1950s and 1960s, when bundt pans became widely available and cooks started experimenting with different flavors and variations of the cake.
