How do you make detergent cake?
Making detergent cakes requires careful mixing of various ingredients. Here's a basic recipe to make detergent cakes at home:
Ingredients:
1. Vegetable Oil: 200 ml
2. Caustic Soda (Sodium Hydroxide): 70 grams (BE CAREFUL! Caustic Soda is highly corrosive)
3. Soda Ash (Sodium Carbonate): 150 grams
4. Naphthalene Balls: 20 grams (optional, acts as a disinfectant and moth repellent)
5. Soap Noodles (optional): 100 grams
6. Color (optional): A small amount of dye or pigment to add color to the detergent cakes
7. Fragrance Oil (optional): A few drops of your preferred fragrance oil to add a scent to the detergent cakes
8. Water: Approximately 125 ml
Instructions:
1. Safety Precaution: Wear gloves and eye protection when working with Caustic Soda, as it can cause severe burns.
2. Dissolve Caustic Soda: In a large plastic or ceramic container (not metal), dissolve the Caustic Soda in water while stirring with a wooden spoon (never use a metal spoon with Caustic Soda). The mixture will release heat and create fumes, so do this in a well-ventilated area.
3. Mix In Oils: Add vegetable oil and soap noodles (if using) to the Caustic Soda solution. Stir well until the mixture becomes creamy.
4. Add Additives (optional): If you want scented or colored detergent cakes, add a few drops of fragrance oil and a small amount of color at this stage.
5. Incorporate Dry Ingredients: Add Soda Ash and Naphthalene balls (if using) to the mixture. Stir thoroughly to combine.
6. Add Water: Gradually add the remaining water while stirring continuously. Check the consistency of the mixture; it should be spreadable but not too runny.
7. Mold the Mixture: Pour the detergent mixture into desired molds or containers. Alternatively, you can spread the mixture on a flat surface and cut it into desired shapes after it hardens.
8. Let it Set: Cover the molds or containers and allow the mixture to solidify and dry. This may take anywhere from a few days to a week, depending on the weather.
9. Unmold and Use: Once the detergent cakes are completely dry and hardened, unmold them and store in an airtight container for future use.
Note: This detergent might be harsh for sensitive skin, so make sure to test a small amount before regular use. The exact proportions of ingredients might need some adjustments depending on your specific requirements and the desired consistency.
