Who wrote cake-walk?

There's no definitive answer to who wrote cake-walks. The genre developed organically in the African American community in the late 19th century, and many musicians contributed to its creation and evolution. Some of the earliest cake-walks were published in the 1890s, and credited to composers such as Charles Johnson, J.S. Watkins, and Scott Joplin.
