How to Make a Ladybug Birthday Cake (11 Steps)
If you want to make a creative birthday cake for a child's birthday party, make a ladybug cake. Bake the ladybug's body in a dome cake pan or a large bowl and the ladybug's head in a cupcake tin. Icing covers the cake, and a variety of candy accents the ladybug.
Things You'll Need
- Cake batter
- Nonstick spray
- Cupcake tin
- Large heat-proof glass or metal bowl, at least 1 ¼ qt.
- Toothpick
- Cake platter
- Red frosting
- Black licorice
- Junior Mints
- White chocolate pieces
- Chocolate chips
- Cake box
Instructions
-
-
1
Prepare the cake batter according to the box or your favorite cake recipe. Preheat the oven according to the cake recipe.
-
2
Spray nonstick spray into one cupcake holder and the large bowl.
-
3
Pour some of the cake mix into one hole in a cupcake tin. Pour the rest of the cake mix into the bowl.
-
4
Bake the cake according to the directions. Insert a toothpick into the center of the cake. Bake the cake longer if the cake batter sticks to the toothpick. Let the cake cool.
-
5
Turn the bowl over onto the cake platter, allowing the flat part of the cake to sit on the platter.
-
6
Remove the cupcake from the holder. Place it on the cake platter at one end of the bowl cake for the ladybug's head.
-
7
Spread frosting over the entire cake. Smooth the frosting with a spatula.
-
8
Place a piece of black licorice down the middle of the ladybug's body to create wings. Use black licorice to make a smiley mouth on the ladybug's head, and insert the licorice into the ladybug's head to make two antennae.
-
9
Add Junior Mints to the ladybug's body to make spots. Place a mint on the ladybug's head to create a nose.
-
10
Place two white chocolate pieces on the ladybug's head for its eyes. Use icing to attach two chocolate chips to make its pupils.
-
11
Store the cake in the refrigerator. Lightly cover it with aluminum foil or place it into a cake box.
