How to Make a Custard Cake

This layer cake has a custard filling, giving the cake its name.

Instructions

  1. Make the cake first with this ingredients:

    • 2 cups of sugar
    • 4 eggs
    • 1/2 cup of butter
    • 2 cups of self-rising flour
    • 1/2 cups of water
    • 2 teaspoons of vanilla extract
  2. Cream the sugar, butter and eggs together in a large mixing bowl.

  3. Mix in the water, flour and vanilla extract.

  4. Beat on high speed with an electric mixture for a full 10 minutes.

  5. Pour the cake batter, evenly into 4 8-inch cake pans or 2 8-inch cake pans. If you use 2 pans, you will have to divide the cake in halves if you want 4 layers.

  6. Bake at 375 degrees Fahrenheit until cake test done. Cooking times will depend on how thick the cake batter is.

  7. Prepare the custard filling with these ingredients:

    • 1 cup of sugar
    • 1 1/2 cup of milk
    • 2 tablespoons of cornstarch
    • 1/2 stick of butter
    • 2 cups of chopped pecans
  8. Mix the sugar, milk, cornstarch and butter in a saucepan.

  9. Cook over medium heat until it thickens.

  10. Mix in the pecans.

  11. Spread the the custard between the cake layers and on top.
