How to Make Frosting Out of Splenda

If you love to have something sweet every now and then, making your own frosting at home instead of using store-bought frosting can save you money and calories. One alternative ingredient to use in place of sugar when making frosting is Splenda artificial sweetener. Splenda is a good ingredient to include when making frosting or baking because it tastes so much like sugar. It is also an alternative for those who are not allowed to consume sugar but love eating sweets.

Things You'll Need

  • Medium saucepan
  • Medium mixing bowl
  • Mixing spoon
  • 1/2 cup Splenda artificial sweetener
  • 1 tbsp. light corn syrup
  • 1/3 cup 2% low-fat milk
  • 2 oz. unsweetened chocolate
  • 2 tbsp. unsalted butter
  • 1/2 tsp.vanilla extract
  • Electric mixer

Instructions

  1. Heat 1/2 cup Splenda, 1 tbsp. light corn syrup, 1/3 cup of milk and 2 oz. unsweetened chocolate in a medium saucepan.

  2. Stir the ingredients constantly for 6 minutes. Remove the saucepan from the heat and add 2 tbsp. unsalted butter. Do not stir the butter into the ingredients, because it will melt on its own.

  3. Set the mixture aside and let it cool. This will take about 1 hour.

  4. Pour the mixture into a medium-sized mixing bowl and add 1/2 tsp. of vanilla extract to the bowl.

  5. Beat the mixture at medium speed using the electric mixer for 5 minutes. Spread the frosting onto the cake quickly with a spatula or spoon.
