How to Freeze Cupcakes With Frosting
If you have leftover cupcakes, you can keep them in the freezer to enjoy your treats at a later time. Properly frozen cupcakes can remain fresh up to three months in the freezer as long as they are shielded from air exposure to avoid freezer burn. When you are ready to enjoy the frosted cupcakes, you can safely thaw them in the refrigerator overnight.
Things You'll Need
- Cookie sheet
- Aluminum foil
- Freezer storage bag or cake box
- Freezer tape
Instructions
-
Remove any plastic decorations or flowers from the cupcakes. Allow the cupcakes to cool completely.
-
Place the cupcakes on a cookie sheet. Set them in the freezer until the frosting or icing hardens completely.
-
Wrap the cupcakes in aluminum foil carefully. Bring the aluminum foil to the top of the cupcake and twist it closed to avoid smashing the icing. Cover the cupcake completely with the foil.
-
Place each cupcake in a freezer storage bag or a cake box. Seal the bag and remove as much air as possible or secure the box closed with freezer tape.
-
Label the storage bags or boxes with the contents and date. Place the cupcakes on a freezer shelf away from other frozen foods that may smash them.
