How to Make an Army Tank Birthday Cake

If your child enjoys playing with army men and tanks, you can throw him an army-themed birthday party. You can make the birthday party more on-theme by creating a whimsical cake designed to look like an army tank. You can do this by arranging basic food materials in a certain way to make the cake resemble a tank. You can even insert plastic army figurines into the cake as an added decoration.

Things You'll Need

  • Cake mix
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/3 cup oil
  • Electric mixer
  • Cooking spray
  • 8-inch square cake pan
  • 6-inch round cake pan
  • Green icing
  • Pretzel stick
  • Tootsie rolls
  • Army figurines

Instructions

  1. Combine a boxed cake mix, 2 eggs and 1/3 cup oil into a bowl. Mix well with an electric mixer until combined.

  2. Spray a square and round cake pan with cooking spray. Pour in the cake mix evenly between them.

  3. Bake the cake pans in a 375-degree-Fahrenheit oven for 20 minutes. Allow the pans to cool.

  4. Place the square cake onto a cake tray.

  5. Ice the cake with green icing.

  6. Place the round cake on top of the square cake, and ice it with the green icing.

  7. Place a row of 15 to 20 Tootsie Rolls horizontally along either side of the cake. These will represent the treads on a tank.

  8. Insert a large pretzel stick into one end of the cake. This will represent the cannon on a tank.

  9. Cover the pretzel with green icing.

  10. Insert an army figurine into the round cake to complete the army tank cake.
