What part of nutmeg do we use as a spice?
We use the seed of the nutmeg fruit as a spice.
The nutmeg fruit is actually a drupe, similar to a peach or plum. Inside the fruit is a hard shell, and inside that shell is the nutmeg seed. The spice we use comes from the kernel of the seed, after the outer shell is removed.
