Is parsley the same as chives?
Parsley and chives are both herbs, but they belong to different families and have different flavors and textures.
Parsley (_Petroselinum crispum_) is a biennial plant in the family Apiaceae. It is a native of the central and eastern Mediterranean region, and is now widely cultivated. It has a bright green, curly or flat leaves and a slightly bitter, slightly peppery taste. Parsley is a common ingredient in many dishes, including soups, salads, stews, and sauces.
Chives (_Allium schoenoprasum_) are a perennial plant in the family Amaryllidaceae. They are native to central Asia and Europe and now grow wild in many parts of North America. They have long, slender, hollow leaves and a mild oniony flavor. Chives are often used as a garnish or as a seasoning in soups, salads, dips, and sauces.
