How to Store Vanilla Beans
Keeping your spices fresh is an important part of cooking. It is not good to cook with spices that are bland or moldy. It is generally true that spices have a much longer shelf-life than other cooking products, but it is still important to learn the specification of a given for vanilla as opposed to other products. Fortunately, knowing how to store your vanilla beans is simply a matter of knowing where to look.
Instructions
-
Place your beans in a tightly sealed container. You can make sure that the container is airtight by pouring a small amount of water into it while it is empty, closing the lid and seeing if any water drips out.
-
Keep your container is a place that is both dark and cool. Too much heat or light can make your beans spoil early, so make sure to store them in cabinets far from the oven.
-
Remove the beans every few months so they can dry out. If this is done properly, the beans will still be good for up to two years.
