How to Season Ground Pork

Ground pork is an inexpensive meat available from most butchers. It is used in several types of sausage, and can be used in lieu of ground beef in many recipes. However, unseasoned ground pork can detract from the flavor of a dish, rather than complementing or adding to it. Season ground pork before using it in recipes for the best-tasting results. Several herbs and other seasonings are required to flavor ground pork properly.

Things You'll Need

  • 2 lbs. ground pork
  • 1 tbsp. ground black pepper
  • 2 tsp. dried parsley
  • 2 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. Italian seasoning mix
  • 1 tsp. garlic powder

  • 1 tsp. minced dried onions
  • 1/2 tsp. crushed red pepper
  • 1/2 tsp. crushed anise seed

  • Wooden spoon
  • Plastic wrap

Instructions

  1. Combine the ground pork, ground black pepper, dried parsley, salt, Italian seasoning mix, garlic powder, paprika, minced dried onions, crushed red pepper and crushed anise seed in a large bowl. Stir with a wooden spoon.

  2. Cover the bowl with a sheet of plastic wrap and refrigerate for one hour. Remove from the refrigerator and allow to sit at room temperature for 45 minutes.

  4. Brown in the skillet, stirring frequently with a wooden spoon for 12 to 14 minutes or until the pork is no longer pink.
