How to Infuse Sea Salts
Sea salt by itself is a flavorful cooking salt and you can create even more flavor when you infuse it with other ingredients. Infused sea salt diversifies cooking and can be given as a gift. Citrus zest and herbs are easy ingredients to infuse into sea salt, and the process is straightforward and simple.
Things You'll Need
- 3 citrus fruits or 1 cup fresh herbs
- Zester grater or chef knife
- Cutting board
- 3 cups salt
- Food processor
- Glass jars with lids
Instructions
-
Zest the citrus fruit or chop the herbs finely. To zest a citrus fruit, use a zester grater to scrape the peel or rind of the fruit. Chop the herbs into the finest pieces you can with a good quality chef's knife.
-
Spread the zest or herbs on the cutting board and allow to dry for about 30 minutes.
-
Pour the sea salt and the zest or herbs into your food processor. Pulse until it is evenly colored.
-
Pour the mixture into the jars and screw on the caps.
