How long does organic fruit stay fresh?
Organic fruit generally has a shorter shelf life than conventionally grown fruit because it is usually not treated with preservatives or waxes. As a result, the following general timeframes for freshness, as per the University of California, Davis are as follows:
Refrigerated:
- Apples: 2–4 weeks
- Berries: 1–2 days
- Cherries: 5–7 days
- Citrus fruits: 1–2 weeks
- Grapes: 1–2 weeks
- Mangoes: 1–2 weeks
- Nectarines: 3–5 days
- Peaches: 1–2 days
- Pineapple: 3–5 days
- Plums: 3–5 days
- Watermelon: 1–2 weeks
Room Temperature:
- Bananas: 2–5 days
- Avocados: 3–5 days
- Room temperature fruit should generally be kept above 32 to 35 °F(0-2 °C), but below 60–65 °F (16-18 °C).
