How to Peel Mandarin Oranges
Carry a healthy snack with you in a bite-sized, easy to peel citrus fruit with a small package. Mandarin oranges, also known as tangerines, encompass several citrus varieties: satsumas, tangelos, yuzu and tangors. Mandarin oranges differ from other orange varieties by their smaller size and peel, which comes off cleanly. Once you remove the peel from your mandarin orange, grate and save it for adding a tang to all of your cooking recipes using citrus zest. Use this peeling technique not just for mandarin oranges, but for all varieties of citrus fruit.
Things You'll Need
- Pot
- Deep bowl
- Water
- Mandarin oranges
- Slotted spoon
- Ice
- Paring knife
- Cutting board
Instructions

Fill the pot and the bowl halfway with water.

Bring the pot of water to a boil over high heat.

Add ice to the bowl until the water level reaches three-fourths of the way up the side.

Drop the mandarin oranges into the boiling water and heat for 30 seconds.

Remove the mandarin oranges with a slotted spoon and drop them into the ice water to loosen their skin.

Set the cooled mandarin oranges onto a cutting board and cut off a slice of the peel from both the stem and bottom ends of the fruit.

Pull a strip of the peel (starting with the exposed side) from the mandarin orange with your fingers.

Repeat peeling the mandarin orange with your fingers until you remove all of the peel.
