How to Rehydrate Beef Jerky That's Too Dry (4 Steps)
Dehydration removes moisture from food. This preservation process allows you to keep certain foods without refrigeration, which is convenient when camping. You rehydrate, or add water back to the food, before adding it to a recipe. Beef jerky is one food that does not need rehydration before eating. Yet, if the jerky is too dry, or you decide you want to add the meat to a recipe, you can rehydrate the jerky, just as you would other dehydrated foods.
Things You'll Need
- Pan
- Tea kettle
Instructions
-
Place the beef jerky in a pan.
-
Bring water to a boil in a teapot.
-
Pour the boiling water over the jerky. Use about 1 cup of water for 1 cup of jerky.
-
Remove jerky from the pan when it reaches the desired texture. Leave it in the pan for up to four hours, if you want to rehydrate the jerky to use as a recipe ingredient. Refrigerate the pan of jerky and water if you soak it for more than two hours.
