How to Use Cocoa Powder for Unsweet Chocolate Squares
Sometimes even the most experienced cooks find themselves unprepared, their pantries missing that one all-important ingredient and no time to run to the store. When this happens, knowledge of ingredient substitutions is essential. If you are missing unsweetened chocolate squares, you can easily substitute cocoa powder and butter in your favorite chocolate recipes. Just be certain that your cocoa powder is unsweetened.
Things You'll Need
- Unsweetened cocoa powder
- Butter
Instructions
-
Measure 3 tbsp. of unsweetened cocoa powder for every 1 oz. square of chocolate in your recipe. If your recipe calls for 4 oz. of chocolate, you need 12 tbsp. of cocoa powder.
-
Mix the cocoa powder with a small amount of the liquid in the recipe. Stir until the powder is completely dissolved.
-
Add 1 tbsp. unsalted butter for every 1 oz. square of chocolate in your recipe. This amount is in addition to any butter already called for in the recipe.
