Why is lettuce green?
The green colour of lettuce and many other plants comes from a pigment called chlorophyll. Chlorophyll is a vital pigment that plants use to absorb light energy from the sun and convert it into sugars through photosynthesis.
Lettuce leaves are rich in chlorophyll, which is why they appear green. Chlorophyll is most effective at absorbing blue and red light from the sun, while reflecting green light, giving lettuce its characteristic colour.
Other factors, such as lighting, nutrient availability, and genetics, can also influence the intensity and shade of green in lettuce.
