Classic Flan Recipe:
Ingredients:
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- ¼ cup water
- 2 cups heavy cream
- 1 cup whole milk
- 2/3 cup granulated sugar
- ½ cup cornstarch
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 5 egg yolks
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
Instructions:
1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
2. In a small saucepan, combine the granulated sugar and water over medium heat. Stir constantly until the sugar has dissolved and the mixture has turned a deep amber color.
3. Pour the caramel into a 9-inch flan dish and swirl it around to coat the bottom and sides.
4. In a medium bowl, whisk together the heavy cream, whole milk, 2/3 cup granulated sugar, cornstarch, and salt.
5. In a separate bowl, whisk together the egg yolks and vanilla extract.
6. Slowly whisk the egg yolk mixture into the cream mixture until well combined.
7. Pour the custard into the flan dish.
8. Bake in the preheated oven for 45 minutes, or until the custard has set and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
