Why does dishwasher stink?

1. Food Residue: Food particles that are left behind in the dishwasher can start to decompose and create an unpleasant odor. Make sure to rinse dishes thoroughly before loading them into the dishwasher to prevent this problem.

2. Clogged Drain: A clogged drain can cause water to back up and create a smelly environment in the dishwasher. Check the drain regularly and remove any obstructions that may be preventing water from draining properly.

3. Detergent Build-up: Over time, detergent can build up on the inside of the dishwasher and start to smell. Clean the dishwasher regularly with a dishwasher cleaning solution to remove detergent build-up.

4. Old Food in Trap: Check the dishwasher’s drain trap, particularly if you notice standing water. Bits of food stuck in this area can quickly rot, causing an odor to permeate through the dishwasher. Remove the drain cover, ensuring the holes are clear and there’s no old food caught within them.

5. Mold and Mildew: Moisture inside the dishwasher can create a breeding ground for mold and mildew. To prevent this, make sure to leave the dishwasher door open after each use to allow the machine to air out.

6. Grease Build-up: Grease can build up on the inside of the dishwasher and cause an odor. Clean the dishwasher regularly with a degreaser to remove grease build-up.
