How to Cook With Romertopf Clay Pots (6 Steps)
Romertopf clay pots are a new spin on a cooking technique that has been in use for thousands of years. The clay pots, which come in a variety of styles and sizes, retain the moisture in the food, along with full flavor, vitamins and nutrients. Romertopf clay pots are attractive enough to go directly from oven to table. You can cook meats, casseroles, pastas and desserts in the Romertopf clay pot.

- Folded towel or trivet

Wash your new Romertopf clay pot inside and out with hot water but no soap. Fill the sink with hot water and soak the top and bottom of the pot for 15 minutes.

Rinse the lid and the base of your Romertopf clay pot in cold water before each use. Allow excess water to drain.

Place the food in the clay pot, then place the pot in a cold oven, then set the oven to the desired temperature. Cook the food according to your regular recipe, but decrease the cooking time by 1/2 hour and add 100 degrees F. to the recommended temperature. Romertopf clay pots are safe to use in the microwave. Follow the oven manufacturer's recommendations regarding temperature and cooking time, as ovens will vary.

Remove the Romertopf clay pot from the oven with with oven mitts. Place the hot clay pot on a folded towel or a trivet.

Clean the clay pot with hot water and a nylon brush or scouring pad. Avoid using detergent. Never place a hot pot in cold water.

Store your Romertopf clay pot with the lid upside down to allow air to circulate. Place the pot on a shelf where air can circulate freely.
