Why do rice krispies make sound?

The popping sound of Rice Krispies is due to the expansion of steam trapped inside the grains as they are heated during the toasting process. The sound occurs as the steam pressure inside the grain reaches a point where it ruptures the grain's outer shell, releasing the steam and resulting in the audible popping sound.
