How to Prevent Wooden and Bamboo Skewers from Burning on the Grill
Many grill masters like to make shish kebabs with wooden or bamboo skewers. But the skewers — and the food — can be burned if the proper precautions aren't taken. Follow these steps to prevent burned skewers and impart a bit of extra flavor to your grilled dishes as well.
Things You'll Need
- 1-qt. pitcher or container
- Water
- 1 to 2 tsp. sea salt
- Wooden or bamboo skewers
Instructions
-
Fill the pitcher or container with water. The container should be tall enough that you can completely submerge the skewers.
-
Add the sea salt to the water. You should use about 1 tsp. for every quart of water you use, but you can use more or less according to your taste.
-
Place the skewers in the water. Allow them to soak overnight.
-
Take the skewers out of the water only when you are ready to place the food on them, then place the skewers directly on the grill.
