How to Create an All-Natural, Non-Stick Surface on Your BBQ Grill
Whether your grilling with gas or charcoal you can create an all-natural, non-stick surface on your barbecue with products you already have in the kitchen. It will keep your food from sticking and will make cleaning the grill so much easier.
Things You'll Need
- Potato
- Olive oil or cooking oil
- Rag
- Basting brush
Instructions
-
Clean the grill surface. Any charred food particles left on the grill will impede the effectiveness of these coatings.
-
Take your pick between potatoes or oil to provide the grill's non-stick coating. There are no particular pros or cons to either — it's your choice.
Simply cut one whole potato in half or pour some olive or other cooking oil in a small dish and soak a clean kitchen rag in it.
-
Coat the grill before you heat it up. If you're using a potato, run the cut sides of the potato up and down the grilling surface, using enough pressure to coat the grates without breaking the potato. Definitely make sure the grill is cold for this or it will sear the surface of the potato.
If you're using oil, simply rub down the grilling surface with a generous, but not dripping, coat of oil. Give the grill a second coat of oil when it's hot using a basting brush.
-
Repeat this process of cleaning and coating your grill before and after each use.
