How to Cut Spare Ribs (5 Steps)

Spare ribs are not only a dinner staple and eaten throughout the world, they are also very inexpensive. Spare ribs are made from either pigs or cows, resulting in pork or beef ribs. You can purchase a whole rack of ribs, a half rack or baby back ribs from the butcher or any restaurant. An average rib rack has 12 to 13 ribs. Eating the ribs is always good...and messy. But before you begin eating your ribs, you have to cut them apart. Although not a difficult task, using a dull knife will certainly make the process take longer.

Things You'll Need

  • Ribs
  • Large kitchen knife

Instructions

  1. Cook your spare ribs in any way that you like. You do not want to cut the ribs before cooking then because they will come out tough. The ribs will be done when the internal temperature reaches between 175 and 180 degrees.

  2. Place the ribs onto a platter rib-side down.

  3. Insert the tip of the kitchen knife into the middle of the spare ribs in between to rib bones.

  4. Slice through the ribs, separating the two sides. Make sure that the middle is done (gray in color).

  5. Continue cutting through the meat in between the rib bones. Do this until each rib is separated.
