How to Brine a Smoked Turkey (5 Steps)
Brining involves soaking a meat in salty water; however, the rest of the ingredients are up to you. There are many recipes to try. You can add seasonings that leave a fruity taste to your smoked turkey, a sweet taste or a more savory one. You can try different herbs, spices, fruits and even alcohols. After brining, you can add more seasoning directly to the turkey prior to smoking it.
Things You'll Need
- 1 gallon hot water
- 1 cup kosher salt
- Seasonings
- Large saucepan
- Brining bucket
Instructions

Wash your turkey and set it in the fridge.

Boil the water in a large saucepan and stir in the salt and seasonings. Allow to cool.

Add any remaining spices and the turkey to the brining bucket.

Coat the turkey in the brining solution and allow it to sit in the brining mixture in the refrigerator overnight, turning the turkey occasionally.

Remove the turkey, add any additional spices and proceed with smoking it.
