How to Boil a Cracked Egg
You might assume that a cracked egg is no longer usable, especially when it comes to boiling. The assumption is that the egg may seep out of the shell while it's cooking causing a mess and an unappealing finished product. But, in fact, a cracked egg is salvageable. With a little preparation and a gentle touch you can use your cracked egg to make a perfectly acceptable boiled egg.
Things You'll Need
- Saucepan
- Salt
- Vinegar or lemon juice
Instructions
-
Pick up the egg in your hand and hold it gently to avoid cracking the egg any further.
-
Fill a saucepan half-way full with cold water.
-
Add a dash of salt to the water.
-
Rub a little vinegar or lemon juice all over the cracked area using a light touch. Or pour a splash of vinegar directly into the water.
-
Submerge the egg very gently into the water, setting it on the bottom of the pan.
-
Place the pan on the burner and turn it to high heat.
-
Allow the water to come to a boil.
-
Remove the pan immediately from the burner and place the cover on top of the pan.
-
Wait for about 15 to 18 minutes before removing the eggs from the water. The hot water completes cooking the eggs.
