How to Steam Rice Noodles
Rice noodles are typically made from a simple mixture of rice flour and water. These ingredients make the noodles fragile; they will break down into a mushy consistency if you prepare them incorrectly. Steaming rice noodles prevents them from turning to mush and produces tender, perfectly-cooked results. To steam rice noodles you need some everyday kitchen supplies, water and a bit of oil. Allow for approximately 40 minutes to steam one batch of rice noodles.
Things You'll Need
- Mixing bowl
- Water
- Steamer basket
- Pot with lid
- Medium bowl
- Oil
Instructions
-
Place the rice noodles into a mixing bowl. Pour enough cold water into the bowl to cover the noodles with two inches of liquid. Leave the noodles to soak for 20 minutes.
-
Drain off the water from the bowl and place the noodles into a steamer basket. If you have too many noodles, you will have to steam them in batches. Do not close the steamer basket.
-
Bring two inches of water to a boil in a pot. The pot needs to be large enough to hold the open steamer basket.
-
Place the steamer basket in the pot. Cover the pot with the lid and leave the noodles to steam for 20 minutes or until tender.
-
Remove the steamer basket and place the noodles into a medium bowl. Add 1 tsp. of your favorite oil for every 1 cup of noodles. Toss the noodles with the oil to keep them from sticking together.
