How to Make Homemade Fries Without Frying (7 Steps)
As much as you love french fries, you know that those deep-fried slices of potato are hazardous to your health and your waistline. Happily, you don't have to completely banish french fries from your life. On a balanced diet, you can enjoy french fries every once in a while, but you should make them yourself and they should be baked, not fried. Cooking them yourself from scratch allows you to be in control of what goes into your food, and baking them avoids all the excess oil that the fries would absorb if you had fried them.
Things You'll Need
- Russet potatoes
- Vegetable scrubber
- Cutting board
- Sharp knife
- Cooking spray
- Baking sheet
- Salt, to taste
Instructions
-
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
-
Scrub the potatoes thoroughly under running water with a vegetable scrubber. Peel the potatoes if you would like, but this is optional.
-
Lay the potato on a cutting board and slice into even, thick or thin slices, depending on what type of fries you want.
-
Spray cooking spray onto a clean baking sheet
-
Spread the potato slices in a single layer onto the baking sheet.
-
Spray the potato slices lightly with cooking spray. Sprinkle the potatoes with salt, to your taste.
-
Bake the fries in the oven for about 20 minutes, then flip and bake for another 20 minutes, until they are golden brown or crisp enough for your liking. Eat hot.
