How to Grind Carrots (6 Steps)
Ground carrots can be used in a variety of recipes. Use them to make carrot cake, relish or cold salads. Carrots can be ground both raw and cooked, but raw tend to mush more easily. To grind carrots use a blender or food processor. A meat grinder creates an ideal ground consistency; carrots ground in a food processor or blender often come out either too coarse or mushy.
Things You'll Need
- Vegetable peeler
- Knife
- Colander
- Grinder
Instructions
-
Rinse and peel your carrots over the sink. If you don't have a garbage disposal, peel over a bowl so the peels don't clog your drain.
-
Chop the peeled carrots into small sections about 1/2 inch in length.
-
Place the chopped pieces of carrot in a colander and rinse them under a stream of cool water. If you need to cook them before grinding them, do so now.
-
Set your grinder up on a flat surface. If you are using a hand grinder, find a workspace that allows you proper leverage to turn the hand crank.
-
Add the carrots to your grinder one or two pieces at a time. Gradually add more carrots until all the carrots you need are done.
-
Check the grinder regularly to see if your carrots are ground to your desired preference. The longer your grind carrots, the finer they will be.
