How do you cook toor dal without pressure cooker?
Ingredients
* 2 cups toor dal (split pigeon peas)
* 1 medium onion, chopped
* 2 tomatoes, chopped
* 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
* 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
* 1/2 teaspoon red chili powder
* Salt to taste
* Oil for frying
Instructions
1. Wash the toor dal and soak in water for at least 30 minutes.
2. In a large pot or saucepan, heat the oil over medium heat.
3. Add the cumin seeds and let them sizzle for a few seconds.
4. Add the chopped onion and fry until softened.
5. Add the tomatoes and cook until they are soft and mushy.
6. Add the soaked toor dal, turmeric powder, red chili powder, and salt.
7. Add 4 cups of water and bring to a boil.
8. Reduce the heat to low, cover the pot, and let the dal simmer for 45 minutes, or until the dal is cooked through.
9. Serve the dal hot with rice, roti, or chapati.
