How to you clean a heatsink?

Tools Required

- Philips-head screwdriver

- Compressed air

- Rubbing alcohol

- Cotton swabs

- Lint-free cloth

Instructions

1. Power Down the Computer: Before you begin cleaning, make sure your computer is powered off and unplugged.

2. Open the Computer Case: Use a Philips-head screwdriver to remove the screws that secure the side panel of your computer case. Be careful not to lose any of the screws.

3. Locate the Heatsink: The heatsink is a metal structure with a fan attached to it. It is usually located near the CPU.

4. Clean the Fan: Use compressed air to blow dust and debris off of the fan. You can also use a cotton swab dipped in rubbing alcohol to clean the fan blades.

5. Clean the Heatsink Fins: Use a cotton swab dipped in rubbing alcohol to clean the heatsink fins. Be sure to get in between all of the fins.

6. Reattach the Heatsink: Once the heatsink is clean, apply a small amount of thermal paste to the CPU. Then, carefully reattach the heatsink to the CPU. Be sure to secure it tightly with the screws.

7. Reinstall the Computer Case: Replace the side panel of your computer case and secure it with the screws.

8. Power on the Computer: Plug in the computer and power it on. Check the CPU temperature to make sure that it is within normal range.
