How to Use Goose Eggs for Baking a Cake (4 Steps)

In the realm of baking, hen eggs are the usual currency. But with allergies, developments of green living and healthier options, different eggs are being used, such as emu, ostrich, duck and goose eggs. For the eco-friendly crowds, free range is preferred. When it comes to baking, volume matters. Goose eggs are 4 to 5 times larger than a hen's egg, so substituting goose eggs for hen's eggs in baking can be a bit tricky.

Things You'll Need

  • Goose eggs
  • Baking ingredients as per your recipe
  • Mixing bowl
  • Hand mixers or whisk

Instructions

  1. Follow the baking instructions for your recipe.

  2. Add one goose egg for every two hen's eggs the recipe calls for.

  3. Continue mixing as usual. If the consistency is too thin, add a bit more flour. If you have to add more than a cup of flour, figure out how much more, and add other ingredients such as sugar, baking soda/powder and salt.

  4. Bake as directed.
