What would happen if i used plain flour instead of self raising in cakes?

If you use plain flour instead of self-raising flour in a cake recipe, the cake will not rise properly and will be dense and heavy. This is because self-raising flour contains a raising agent, such as baking powder or baking soda, which causes the cake to rise when heated. Plain flour does not contain a raising agent, so it will not rise properly.

If you do not have any self-raising flour on hand, you can make your own by adding a raising agent to plain flour. To do this, add 1 teaspoon of baking powder and 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda to every 1 cup of plain flour.
