How to Bake Without Baking Paper (5 Steps)
Baking paper, also known as parchment paper or baking parchment, allows you to bake cakes, cookies, breads and more without the products sticking to the pan. It is usually available in rolls or sheets at cooking and baking retailers, as well as at some department and big-box stores. Cooks find that using baking paper means that even sticky cookies and cakes slide right off the pan. This comes in handy especially if you want your baked goods to maintain a certain shape. You can, however, bake without paper.
Things You'll Need
- Shortening, butter or margarine
- Pastry brush
Instructions
-
Put a dab of butter, margarine or shortening onto the tip of your pastry brush. How much shortening you use depends on the size of the pan to be oiled.
-
Brush the substance over the entire interior of the baking pan, taking care to coat crevices. The pan should be lightly coated with the shortening substance.
-
Put the dough or batter in or on the baking pan and bake according to recipe directions.
-
Remove the item from the oven and allow it to cool for a few minutes. Cool cookies for three to five minutes. For cakes, wait 10 to 15 minutes. Quickbreads, such as muffins and coffee cakes, require about 20 minutes.
-
Remove the baked good(s) from the baking pan.
