Things You'll Need
- Oven
- Cake batter
- Miniature cupcake pan
- Miniature cupcake pan liners
- Pastry bag
- 1/4-inch tip
- Toothpick
- Star pastry bag tip
- Frosting
- Embellishments
Instructions
-
Preheat your oven to the temperature indicated on your box of cake mix or recipe.
-
Prepare your cake batter according to your directions.
-
Place miniature cupcake liners inside a miniature cupcake pan.
-
Fit a 1/4-inch tip inside a pastry bag. Pour your cake batter inside the pastry bag.
-
Squeeze cake batter inside each miniature cupcake liner until it is filled about two-thirds of the way. Using the pastry bag is much easier to do this than using a spoon. Because the cupcake liners are so small, using a spoon can cause you to spill the batter all over the pan.
-
Bake the cupcakes for the length of time indicated on your recipe, or until a toothpick inserted inside one cupcake comes out cleanly. Allow the cupcakes to cool completely before moving forward.
-
Clean out your pastry bag and fit it with a star tip. Place your frosting inside the pastry bag.
-
Squeeze frosting out of the pastry bag and onto the cupcake top. Do this in a continuous circle, starting with the outer edges of the cupcake and working your way to the center. Because the cupcakes are so small, this should only take a couple of turns. When you have reached the center, release the pressure and bring the tip straight up.
-
Decorate the miniature cupcakes with decorations of your choice. For example, choose sprinkles, miniature candy-covered chocolates, colored sanding sugar or anything else you like. Hold the cupcake by its base and dip it into the decoration for a more even covering than sprinkling the topping will give.
