How to Decorate Cookies Like High Heels
With the ready availability of cookie cutters in all shapes and sizes, you're no longer limited to circles, hearts and stars. For a fun party favor or bridal shower treat, bake a batch of sugar cookies cut out in the shape of a high heel. Your decorating options are limited only by your imagination and the number of different colored icings you choose to make. Use icing, edible glitter, tiny candies and metallic dragees to give your high-heel cookies a personal touch or match your party's theme.
Things You'll Need
- Decorator icing
- Small bowls
- Food coloring
- Vinyl tablecloth
- High heel-shaped sugar cookies
- Assorted edible glitter, candies and garnishes
- Toothpicks
- Small, stiff-bristled paintbrush
Instructions
-
Prepare a large batch of your favorite decorator icing in white. Separate the icing into smaller bowls, one for each color frosting you want to make. Use food coloring to create the colors you want for your decorated high-heeled shoe cookies: white and silver for a bridal shower or the color of the bride's flowers; neon colors for a teen's birthday party; and shades of brown for animal print shoes for a party with gal friends. Stir each bowl of icing until the food coloring is thoroughly blended into the white frosting.
-
Spread a vinyl tablecloth on the work surface so you can lay out the decorated cookies in a single layer as you frost them. Gather up and arrange on the work space the icings, the unfrosted high-heel sugar cookies and an assortment of sprinkles, garnishes and edible glitter.
-
Frost each cookie with your base color. For wedding shoes, use white frosting. Sprinkle edible silver or gold glitter on the white frosting before it dries, or add gold or silver outlines after the white frosting is dry. Another option for a bridal shower is to decorate the high-heel cookies in the color of the bridesmaids' dresses, garnished with small frosting or candy flowers. You can also get creative with texture, using toothpicks, small paintbrushes or metal skewers to draw designs in the white frosting to look like lace or ridged satin.
-
Delight guests at a teenager's birthday party or your next ladies' night by decorating your cookies with bright colors or wild animal prints. Frost the cookies with neon or bright jewel colors accented with a shiny black heel. Alternate random stripes of black and white for a zebra print or black and orange for a tiger print. Frost each cookie in a golden brown or tan color, then daub on small flecks of darker brown to make leopard or cheetah print shoe cookies. For a finishing touch, sprinkle edible glitter on the neon shoes or add black or red licorice strings to give the impression of funky shoelaces.
