Is it safe to use non-stick bread pans after they have been scratched?
Non-stick pans are coated with a chemical called polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE), which is commonly known as Teflon. When this coating is scratched, it can chip off and release harmful chemicals into your food. These chemicals can cause health problems such as cancer, reproductive problems, and thyroid issues.
Additionally, scratched non-stick pans can also be a breeding ground for bacteria. Bacteria can easily get into the scratches and crevices of the pan, and then multiply and spread to your food. This can increase your risk of food poisoning and other illnesses.
For these reasons, it is important to avoid using non-stick pans that have been scratched. If you do notice a scratch in your non-stick pan, it is best to discard it and purchase a new one.
