How do the bugs get into flour?

Flour bugs, also called weevils, are beetles that can infest stored grains and other foods. They are small, dark-brown or black insects that can be about 1/8 inch (3 millimeters) long.

Bugs can get into flour in several ways:

- During the harvesting, transporting, or storage process before it reaches the store or your home

- Through small holes or cracks in the packaging

- By being carried in by other insects or rodents

To prevent bugs from infesting flour, you should store it in airtight containers in a cool, dry place. If you do find bugs in your flour, you can freeze the flour for a few days to kill them. You can also sift the flour to remove any dead bugs or larvae.
