How to replace a garbage disposal

1. Turn off the power: Find the circuit breaker that controls the garbage disposal and turn it off. If you can't find the circuit breaker, you can also turn off the main power to your home.

2. Disconnect the water: Close the water shut-off valve under the sink.

3. Disconnect the garbage disposal from the sink drain:

- Place a bucket under the P-trap to catch any water that drains out.

- Loosen the nuts that hold the drain flange to the sink.

- Remove the drain flange and take out the old garbage disposal.

4. Install the new garbage disposal:

- Insert the new garbage disposal into the sink drain hole.

- Secure with the drain flange.

- Attach the P-trap and connect it to the sink drain.

- Tighten the nuts on the drain flange to secure the garbage disposal.

5. Reconnect the water supply:

- Turn the water shut-off valve back on.

- Check for leaks.

6. Plug the garbage disposal into an outlet and test it:

- Turn on the power.

- Turn on the garbage disposal.

- Run some water into the sink and turn the garbage disposal on.

- Check to make sure the garbage disposal is working properly.
