What does it mean when you crack an egg and there is blood in it?
It is very rare to find blood in an egg. Blood in an egg can be caused by several factors. One is the age of the hen which can lead to a rupture in the follicle when the egg is formed, causing blood to leak into the yolk. It could be caused by a diet too high in carotenoids, which are naturally occurring pigments found in plants and vegetables, resulting in a deep orange yolk. Stress, such as rough handling of the hens, can also cause blood spots. These blood spots are unsightly but pose no health risk.
