Why do egg selling companies kill off the male baby chicks?
It's not because they're evil, it's a survival strategy. Male chicks are a waste of resources for egg-producing companies, as they don't lay eggs and are not used for meat production. So, to maximise efficiency and profitability, the sad truth is that many male chicks are selectively killed, or "culled," shortly after hatching. This practice, widely adopted by the industry, is called chick culling.
