Why do rotten eggs float in water?
Rotten eggs do not float in water. Fresh eggs sink in water, but as the egg ages, the air cell inside it becomes larger, causing the egg to float. However, when an egg goes rotten, the yolk and white break down, releasing hydrogen sulfide gas. This gas causes the egg to become denser, causing it to sink in water.
