How do you take temperature of received foods?

1. Insert the probe. Insert the probe of the food thermometer into the thickest part of the food, making sure that it does not touch the bone or fat. For liquids, immerse the probe at least 2 inches into the liquid.

2. Wait for the reading. Wait for the thermometer to display the temperature reading. This may take a few seconds.

3. Check the temperature. Compare the temperature reading to the safe minimum internal temperatures for food. These temperatures can be found in the FDA Food Code or USDA Safe Minimum Internal Temperatures Chart.

Here are some additional tips for taking the temperature of received foods:

  • Use a calibrated thermometer. This will ensure that your temperature readings are accurate.
  • Sanitize the thermometer probe before and after each use. This will help to prevent cross-contamination.
  • Take the temperature of food as soon as possible after it is received. This will help to ensure that it is still at a safe temperature.
  • If you are transporting food, keep it at a safe temperature (40°F or below or 140°F or above).
  • Discard any food that has been kept at an unsafe temperature for too long.
