Did they use bread crumbs for erasers?

While the idea of using bread crumbs as erasers is charming, it's not historically accurate.

Here's why:

* Bread crumbs are too soft and crumbly. They wouldn't effectively erase pencil marks without leaving a mess.

* Early erasers were made of materials like rubber, bread, or even pumice stone. Rubber was the most common and effective option, but it was expensive. Bread was a cheaper alternative, but it was still more effective than breadcrumbs.

* Bread crumbs were primarily used for food. They weren't commonly considered as an eraser alternative.

In short, the idea of using bread crumbs as erasers is a myth.
