Where did the name sandwich come from?
The name "sandwich" is said to have originated in the 18th century, named after John Montagu, 4th Earl of Sandwich. According to popular tradition, Montagu would often be too busy to leave the gambling table to eat, so he would ask for slices of meat to be placed between two pieces of bread, allowing him to continue gambling while he ate. These creations came to be known as "sandwiches," after their inventor.
