Mint chocolate chip ice cream was invented in 1973 by accident when a Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, ice cream shop owner named Perry B. Haas Jr. added chunks of chocolate chips into mint ice cream. The chips did not melt as expected and the ice cream became an instant hit.
