What year was granola bars invented?

The earliest record of granola bars dates back to 1896 when they were invented by James Caleb Jackson, a doctor and health enthusiast. Jackson was looking for a way to provide his patients with a nutritious and portable food that would keep them energized throughout the day. He created a mixture of oats, nuts, seeds, and dried fruits that he called "Granula". Jackson marketed his invention as a "health food" and eventually founded the company that still produces granola bars today, the Kellogg Company.
