How are ingredients on a food label organized?
The ingredients on a food label are organized in descending order by weight. This means that the ingredient that weighs the most is listed first, followed by the ingredient that weighs the second most, and so on.
If an ingredient is present in less than 2% of the total weight of the product, it can be listed in any order after the ingredients that are present in greater than 2%.
Water, salt, and spices are often listed in the ingredients list, but they are not required to be listed in descending order by weight.
The FDA requires food labels to list all ingredients, including those that are present in trace amounts. This means that even if an ingredient is present in only a very small amount, it must still be listed on the label.
If you have any allergies or sensitivities, it is important to read the ingredients list carefully before consuming a product.
